  • Notes
    • Medical: 2. Congestive cardial failure, Cerebrovascular accident

Robert Scotson was born at Byrom Hall farm, and enjoyed his young days on the farm, especially amongst the horses. Unfortunately he with his family had to move to Plank Plane following his father's bankruptcy. He was a keen footballer, and played with his brothers for Plank Methodist Church football team. He trained and passed exams as a football referee, and once refereed at Burnden Park, Bolton Wanderers football ground for a Lancashire League cup final. He worked at Courtaulds in Leigh in the spinning until 1939 when he moved to Coventry living with Jack & Emily Baldwin on Cheveral Avenue. He purchased a house at 235 Middlemarch Road and worked for Courtaulds. In 1940 he was conscripted into the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and trained at Hereford and spent time at Lowestoft and Cromer in Norfolk on coastal watching duties for two years. He volunteered into the Royal Parachute Regiment and was for four years part of the regiment at Amesbury and Bulford. Due to an ankle injury at football he was unfit to drop by parachute at Arnhem and D-day which most probably saved his life. He was then kept as a batman serving the officers including Brigadier Hill, and once for Brig. Horrocks. He even served the crown prince of Sweden. Following the War he moved back to Coventry where he eventually became supervisor in the acetate division at Little Heath Works of Courtaulds Ltd. He was a keen crown bowler, and after retirement joined the Dunlop bowls teem and was very successfu winning championshipsl. He faithfully attended St Francis Church, and then St Nicholas Church after 1973 in Radford, being a sidesman and on the church council. He faithfully collected money on poppy day for the British Legion and was honoured in London for obtaining record takings in the Coventry area.
